ANOTHER HUGELY SUCCESSFUL DRAGON BOAT EVENT
This year’s event was contested by 22 teams from local businesses, clubs and groups of friends.
On a near perfect day weatherwise the event was attended by nearly 3000 spectators who lined the Regatta Meadow, many families enjoying picnics whilst watching the racing.
Racing was, as usual, very competitive but sadly, this year, the club’s team, ‘Last of the Summer Whine’ failed to perform as well as previous years. Our times were very similar to previous years but it seems most of the opposition have got quicker. We eventually finished in 19th place and failed to qualify for the semi-finals.
The event was won by Young Guns, a team of University friends, all young enough to be our paddlers’ sons or even grandsons!!
The real winners, however, will be the Club’s nominated charity Property Angels Foundation and the various charities nominated by the Mayor all of which are based in St Neots.
The event is now well established in the town, gets great support from the local population and seems destined to remain in the social calendar for some years to come. Thanks to all club members who either paddled, sponsored teams, parked hundreds of cars or just came to support.
Finally, thanks to St Neots Town Council and the St Neots Dragon Boat Club who are our co-organisers.
