Although this is not the Club’s primary function, service to the community often involves raising funds to support particular projects. Our Club is proud of its achievements, having raised over £450,000 since we were formed.
For the last three years we have given financial support to the Riverside Miniature Railway, donating an engine ‘The Sprit of Rotary’ as well as a disabled carriage and three guards trucks.
One of the fundraising highlights is always the Annual Sportsman’s Night, which is held in March every year. This event features dinner, followed by two speakers – one a well-known sporting figure, the other a comedian. It is always sold out and raises several thousand pounds each year.
Another popular annual event is the Town Mayor’s Charity Golf Day, which we organise, in partnership with the Mayor each August with the help and support of the management of Wyboston Lakes Golf and Leisure Centre and the continuing support and sponsorship from many local businesses.
Since 2013 the Club has partnered the St Neots Town Council and the St Neots Dragon Boat Team to organise the Annual St Neots Dragon Boat Event on the beautiful Regatta Meadow on the River Great Ouse.
Each year up to 21 crews of 10 paddlers and a drummer have raced over a 200 metre course three crews abreast making a great spectacle for spectators and proving to be fiercely fought by the crews even though it is principally a fun event.
